How do teachers deal with student crushes?

This question is mainly aimed at males who are actually teachers of any age. I was wondering cause i've heard its really common. Are they briefed on this in training. I know all the implications if a relationship develops but is it strange. Do teachers know? Btw, i am not asking because i want to get involved with a teacher - i'm just curious. How do teachers deal with student crushes?
Teacher (both sexes) are told that, if the student makes an overt moves or otherwise indicate a ';crush'; then the teacher is to gently rebuff the crush, AND TO TELL SCHOOL AUTHORITIES. In my case, we were ALSO instructed to get mildly rude, if necessary, explaining to the student in no uncertain terms that such a relationship is inappropriate. this will usually surprise the student (who has wet dreams about the teacher accepting their affections) and put a stop to the problem.

[But I am too damn ugly to be the object of teenage affections!]

If these rules are followed, the student is usually taken into the guidance office for counseling, and professional counselors (psychologists or psychiatrists) are sometimes brought in to handle difficult cases.

In most cases, the parents are also to be notified. this protects the teacher AND the student, preventing possibly libelous lawsuits.

Still, there ARE some adult idiots out there who think that they can handle the problem themselves. This usually turn out disastrously, with loss of jobs, lawsuits, and possibly jail terms.

Note that there is nothing wrong with those secret, ';only I know'; crushes that most students have. it is only when the student begins to act on or vocalize their intent does the problem arise.
